Walter Crane was a prolific commercial designer and worked for many different manufacturers. He was an ardent socialist involved in the creation of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and the Art Workers’ Guild. He remains perhaps best known for his illustrations of children’s books. This rug is based on one of his Aesthetic works for Jeffrey & Co., one of the most innovative and successful wallpaper manufacturers in Europe, called the Day Lily wallpaper. This rug features an intricate pure silk design on a robust handspun wool ground. It has a fabulous silky sheen that will lighten your room and is soft and cool to the touch.
